Riverside Drive has an amazing gravitational pull, only felt by our adorable Bassethound. Street traffic is sparse, but we still worry about Mr. Buddylee roaming the neighborhood. One minute he is relaxed and sunning himself in the yard, the next minute he’s making his escape, always looking back over his shoulder as he exits the yard. He is obviously sneaking away and knows it! Lyn, Jon and I are pre-occupied with picking Loquats, the tree is filled with an abundance of plump fruit. These Japanese Plums are usually ready in early Spring and their flavor is a mix of peach, citrus and mild mango. Mr. Buddylee is not a fan of the crop so he’s off to discover other tasty treats.

Last weekend Mr. Buddylee found out that the Dragon Boaters who team up to power a 22 person long boat, like very long dogs. We were on the Homosassa River early in the AM and there were already hundreds of rowers and their families getting ready for the day long race competition. We “missed the boat” by not creating a dragon mask for the Happy Hound. He has the long body and tail but was missing the fire shooting nostrils. We will be better prepared next year. Cheers to Buddylee’s friend, Dieter, who did a great job of organizing the event.

Actually, this is the favorite song of Mr. Buddylee’s 2 primary dog walkers (one of them attached to the upper end of the leash in the photo). Nellie McKay, a woman of many talents, wrote “The Dog Song” over 5 years ago. We play the tune often at home, and it now pops up in my brain automatically during our daily strolls. You will spend an entertaining 3 minutes when you click on the green arrow. It is the Happy Hound’s happy song.
The non-commercial use of this song is used with permission from Nellie McKay.

While visiting Rainbow River’s Cracker Days, Mr. Buddylee was drawn to a cast iron pot. As part of a telegraph exhibit and demonstration, the master of Morse Code couldn’t help exhibiting his sense of humor by mentioning that his lunch was cooking, off to the right. The Happy Hound discovered the pot, then signs of life startled the pup. BL had everyone in the crowd laughing. Can someone please comment below about the possible similarity to Oxtail soup?

Mr. Buddylee visited a local event several days ago in Dunnellon, Florida: Cracker Weekend:Life as a Florida Pioneer. To the Happy Hound it wasn’t the spinner of yarn that was fascinating, it was the yarn source. He was wondering how long it would take before the angora rabbit would lose his fury coat? And more importantly, was there a second angora source waiting in the wings?

Mr. Buddylee’s neighbor, Boomer, frequently joins the Happy Hound on a portion of his morning walk. These two photos demonstrate the Bassethound attraction theory. The tips of their tails are static electrically charged with opposite poles. I’m not sure whether BL is negative or positive, but they are definitely being drawn together at the white tipped end of their bodies. Is this a strange Bassethound phenomena or a bit of Photoshop trickery?

This is not an ad for Vermont Teddybears. Mr Buddylee is, affectionately, clamping down on an old friend. He knows he is not supposed to take “teddy” outside and you can tell that by the look in his eyes. The Happy Hound is on his way to the van for a ride, but can’t resist playing his game for a minute or two. Mr. BL wishes you and yours a delightful Valentine’s Day.

Mr. Buddylee lives for and because of his daily strolls. The Happy Hound’s Winter home is in a Town without any sidewalks, but he gets plenty of off road time on his many walking paths. Search his previous posts to view his other favorite locations.

Mr. Buddylee spends time, a lot of time, digging holes. We have given up filling them in, although it’s fun watching the Happy Hound use his 2 gigantic shovels create cool outdoor, recessed beds. He has his favorite locations, but uses all of them during a typical week. It’s hard to look at the holes, empty or filled with a Bassethound, and not smile. What a boy!

It’s not fair that we are the only humans who get to hear Mr. Buddylee every morning just before his 8:00 am walk time. By clicking his mouth, you also get the joy of listening to his houndish voice. However, you also have the oportunity to quiet the Happy Hound by re-clicking his image below.
