Mr. Buddylee: Bridge Inspector.
The Cross Florida Barge Canal was a project, during the 1960’s, to connect the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean across Florida for barge traffic. Two sections were built but the project was cancelled, mainly for environmental reasons. Now that the canal is defunct, the lands along each side have been turned into a linear park called the Cross Florida Greenway. This protected green belt corridor is another one of Buddylee’s (close to home) walking paths. In the near future the barge canal may be turned into a mini port for commercial and recreational marine traffic.
