Mr. Buddylee has many admirer’s, but one of his greatest is his mom. Corbe’s poem, “Who Will We Meet Today?” is not only a tribute to her Hound but is also in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Dr Suess was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2nd, 1904. For a little larger, and more readable version please click HERE.

Mr. Buddylee did a lot of walking during his recent day trip to Cedar Key. CLICK HERE for the location of this island. We usually see a lot of Pelicans, and this day was no different, CLICK HERE for a typical collection perched on the remains of an old dock.
The more you look at a pelican the more it appears that this feathered creature is the Bassethound of the bird world. Both animals have exaggerated features, the oversized head and feet are the two obvious similarities. Bird and Hound are noisy, although Buddylee would probably win a decibel competition. And most important, both creatures make you smile or laugh every time you look at them.

This children’s water park has a jungle gym and swing set, with a sandbox that meets the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Buddylee observes a couple of kids in their contoured swing seat at the Lil’ Shark Park and they observe him. Cedar Key, Florida is a 2 square mile island North of Buddylee’s home. The coastal Hamlet is 48 miles by land and only 13 miles by water (we traveled the dry route). CLICK HERE for an interactive map that will tell you how far you are from Cedar Key.

The joy of bathing Mr. Buddylee. Fortunately, this activity doesn’t need to be done weekly. Our Hound gets brushed several times a week and bath time is on an “as needed” schedule. Buddylee gets the most joy from a rubdown with a dry bath towel. When the over-sized drying cloth gets saturated with water, the rapid shaking proccess begins, and the towel covering is history. He looks like a long-eared reptile shedding his skin. CLICK HERE for the wrapped image.

Mr. Buddylee is being watched by the wildlife: a Heron, Pelican and lots of black Vultures. He enjoyed most of his walk at the Inglis Bypass Spillway (about 6 miles from his home), except for the sand-spur filled grass just east of the gushing water. Our Hound’s padded paws become a pin cushion for the little stickers. It’s hard to spot them in the grass before it’s too late and then the 50 pound pup needs to be carried to safety. The Spillway controls the level of Lake Rousseau by discharging the water into the Withlacoochee River.
